How I spent my summer in 500 words, almost

Note; Prepared for the Swarthmorean, which may have decided not to run it

How I spent my summer Vacation,

in 500 words or less

A good section of my summer was spent on the

O For Congress (O being Owen Powell for CD 7)

Campaign and attendent activities;

including Press Releases, securing required signatures on

the Nominating Petition in various

Delco Farmers Markets/Towns. Though we did

not attain Ballot Status, we did achieve the following;

We brought up  cut military spending, created

a 99% Party (see Facebook) that any of us can continue to work on and

a diverse group of individuals learned to work together

for a common cause.

86

Democracy Unplugged, which I  Facilitate, presented

a July 14th Congressional Forum.  This event

generated a good article in the Delco Times and

some great discussion. (even though the D & R

“were unable to attend”)

119

Out of the above, my writing turned to opinion pieces,

of which the Delco Times has published two.

I am working on more as time permits,

which it often doesn’t.

149

Unlike most Swarthmoreans, I’ve never learned

to work magic with Compost.  During these times,

I remember my past in a South Philly 3rd floor walkup with

increasing fondness.

I’m still trying to access my inner Composter,

in fear that my Compost pile won’t measure up.

194

I’m continuing  reading studies in Russian Literature,

inspired by a fantastic LLC at the College,

taught by Professor Thompson Bradley .  Currently,

I’m reading a History of Russian Literature by D. S. Mirsky,

actually lent to me by a Swarthmore Comrade, after which

I’ll return to Dr. Bradley’s Reading List.

241

Periodically, I return to my creative side, transcribing my

Montreal Poetry Notebooks to Word and then email them to

myself as attachments.  I must

learn a simple Blog to share these Poems.

274

The last few weeks I’ve been in Philly to help the

Constution/Libertarian Parties try to beat

back the Pa Gop Challenge

to their Presidential Petition Sheets.

This arguing over individual signatures has

been draining yet energizing.

 The Pennsylvania Ballot Access

Coalition, which I also facilitate,

has been quoted in articles in the Philadelphia

Daily News and Weekly, the Web-based

Pa Independent, among others.

342

Wife and i continue  providing ongoing primary

 care and control for

two dogs, three cats, and backyard poultry.

This is an animal based household, like many in Swarthmore.

370

Leaving  Russian Literature, I retreat to

Agatha Christie,   reading of

various  Sportive Sections, and political websites.

386

While typing this, I listen to  BBC Proms on

BBC Radio 3, only available

two weeks after, if unBrit.

(The Proms end September 8th.)

 After this, WPRB Princeton

(Classical Discoveries with Marvin Rosen

also only two weeks after, Jerseyite or no.)

425

 We had visitations from

Phyllis of the Desert, my daughter, her

daughter with  boyfriend-in-law,

learned to love DVR technology

for westerns and other old/new movies.

450

Besides all this, there’s a part-time job,

 the ongoing deletions of

the basement’s unneeded items,

(once I decide something is unneeded),

plus house/yard maintenance,

when unavoidable.

473

Summer 2013, having time again,

I will attend some minor league

Baseball games.

This may sound like my hair is constantly on fire

but some lives are spent that way,

and who’s to say what dreams are best.
