Walking into Swarthmoretown on Monday, March 25th, 2013
The last snowtime of this long sad winter
not a joyous snow, nor heaving winds
we had that, just, not this snow season
but a messy slightly disreputable snow
messy and slight, but present and accounted for
I walked into town then
knowing I would miss my Qui Cong class
I walked into town because I had two legs
that let me do that and there might be time
there might be time I would needs remember that
I walked into town with the excuse of buying something
while she was off gallavanting in another country
I do not require another she when she is gone
though if it does me good to have her think that –
I walked to the Co-op, it does me good to walk
I walked into Swarthmore Town
while others drove, I do not choose to drive
there may be times I’m past that choice
I chose to breathe the air and sing the songs
and love the times I have not passed
