Driving in a morning rain
It was radio station 770 AM
and doo wop
that’s all I remember
that and the rain rain rain
It was West Virginia
it was the morning rain,
I drove and listened
can’t remember the stations call letters
It was 770 am
she doesn’t remember
except it gets us through
our sad part of the state
We passed through
Virginia, entered Tennesee
held on to the station
as long as we could
At some point
I looked at her
(my wife, her husband)
and did not want her to be
someone else, with another face or body,
wouldn’t ever tell her that
she doesn’t ever need
to know that
It was AM 770
It was rain in West Virginia
We drove until it was lunch
Until it was that time
