The Uninvited Lunch

I had planned to post this Poem anyhow

but we found another place like this

in Lewisberg where, as Bob Dylan once sang

“you’re in the wrong place my friend, you better leave”

From my previous life spent in alcohol,

I have a sense of when to go and how to do it.

It does come useful some times.

The uninvited lunch

It wasn’t the waffle house
in the South
that’s always a good sign
that it’s not “the awful house”

 Biscuit something
It was only raining outside
and there were a smattering of..
locals, or they looked like

locals, sitting there with
nowhere to go
and plenty of days
to do it in
plenty of days
to do it in
not too many
words to waste

we sat there
less in conversation
than usual
eating biscuits

eating biscuits
with whateveritwas
knowledge
is a dangerous thing

we were saving our words
for ourselves
no one else
being loud

no one else
being loud
we ate our biscuits
and coffee

we ate our biscuits and
coffee and left
making sure
we hadn’t left any

making sure we hadn’t
left any words
lying around
for any one

for anyone
to pick up
paid the check and left
paid the check and left

In the car
we spoke for about a year
just in relief
