The 2006 Jackson Mississippi Poems the first one

Once I finish these,

maybe I should try and locate John McCleod and

send them to him

The 2006 Jackson Mississippi  Poems

Word-Picture  #1 for John McCleod, Artist

Leaving Jackson
Going Back to Chattanooga

After she opened the door
reluctantly, as we interrupted her boredom,
after she opened the door
 the Gallery person asked us
as if this would explain it
were we related to the Artist?
“why else on earth
would you be here”

Trying to jump out
from a place
or a person
from a person
not a prison
from a person like a prison
Trying to jump out
from a place or a person
that kinda maybe really
doesn’t hold you hostage
leastwhys not
in a hostagey kind of way

Trying for a
 little piece of freedom
or without
the relationship of person to person
of person to place
of person to house
of person to a place
like this is my home
even when homeless
this is my home
even when homeless
“How hard is that
for you to understand?

Thinking how leap
can you high
when you know
where the ceiling is
even if
it’s never
been written down
in any kind
of colour and stone
in any kind
of colour and stone

Always caught
about to go
just about there
just about ready
just about gone
just about
