Knoxville Museum of Art 2 Poems from 2002

The river flows at The Knoxville Museum of Art

Glass so sheer
it even scared her
her who doesn’t usually respect heights
‘cause she can’t see herself falling
like her husband who has seen it in dreams
since before he had could spell memory

Gargoyles and such on the fence
over and before
we got to where
this great overlook snared us
speaking of the river where I
could flat out tell noone ever leaps into

As I felt the glass panel
smooth and sheer and keeping the river down there
down where it belonged and not into my head
I wondered how often I would come here
If I lived closer
I wondered how often I would come here
knowing I could
knowing I could

Garden outside the Knoxville Museum of Art

Little Garden
between Museum and Condos
wonder if people practicing to be lovers
come here on Sundays

Little Garden
is this where you take a person
by the river by the bushes
by the fate of the sun

Little Garden
is this where you think weakness might occur
where someone might agree to something
that they should agree to anyway

Little Garden
in a light, bright rain
where you cover the person with yourself
as they welcome it

Little Garden
is this where they take you
to explain that everything is a book
and all books have endings
