In memory and mourning
Murdock
He always seemed like more of a boarder
a transient just visiting, just visiting
we had taken him in through a neighbour
who found him semi-feral semi-feral
He seemed in fear of our two white cats
fierce females who never leave home
fierce females who never leave home
but began to follow Tyre, our hunter
Began to follow Tyre, our hunter
who I would follow too, if I were cat
who I would follow too, if I were cat
and co-existed with our dogs, as one does
He began to live in the basement
afraid of the outside, nervous at the inside
afraid of the outside, nervous at the inside
and this was how he spent days, and nights
The Monday before Thanksgiving it will always be
We heard a basement sound and I ran down
We heard a basement sound and I ran down
He had leaped from a too high space and…
Now he exists only as a memory
The only family member I never photoed, never photoed
We miss him but think we always knew
he was only here to visit, only here to…
