somebody else’s memory
You look just like your dead mother
the woman said, having not seen her for years
me and my daughter in Northeast Philadelphia
where nothing of note
nothing of note
seems ever to change
She recognized me and my daughter
asked how the current wife was also
in the car with her friend
explained me daughter was visiting with me mother
and everything was everything
and everything was jake
except jake never was
but he’s another jagged story
another hunchbacked memory
from the childhood that I can never push the delete button on
memories were why I used to drink….
I gave her one of my cards with my number
she promised to call
(That’s what you always do in that situation
Both of you,)
and maybe she will or maybe…
my daughter and I walked on
spending this time together
as though we always do it
