Poems of Mass Destruction #1
For Lamont B. Steptoe
Your words are rage
Your Po ems are bomb lets
dropping from the fiery sky of your mind
leaping from the airplane hanger of your mouth
to the hungry trees below
You do not
use your imagination
Lazily, you use your life
Like a thief
you use my life
Like a vulture
you remember the dead
Like a vulture
you remember the dead
2) Vietnam man
Black in America man
Gay in America man
can’t you learn to forget
watch dumbavision and-
choose not to remember
And, anyway,
who have we lynched recently
Do you personally know of any one person
killed by the klan
Any faggots
currently being shot
at
Can’t you just write about lovers
and tall and beautiful
office
buildings
3) You write Poems of mass destruction
your phallus is your pen
and
if the world was even halftime right
halftime right
Your face would be as well known
as any of our fake
heromen
who fail to dream
fail to live
fail to breathe one day
except on the slivers of silver
screen
fail to breathe one real day
but do preach
the healing and lovng effects
of violence forever amen
