Policia de Gobierno #6

Policia de Gobierno #6

Suddenly thought I might be in New York City again

as the Bilingual Shoe Shine boy

was walking around

seeking customers

from the benches

walking around the bench sitters

circling on the men who looked like they might smoke cigars

or speechify in a Congress or a hall

stay away from the professors

they have no money

stay away from the professors

while I sat and wrote

waiting now

for the time to go for the time to go

while the women looked for purchase

while the women looked for purchase

wanting to leave for the next road

                                for the next Poem

                                 for the next world

                                  for the next world

how long could one sit here

in a perfect Ecuadorian September 11th

the sun warm and feeling as close as my arm

processing memories to store in my future

how long could one sit here

processing memories to store in my future

for the time when I can only travel by mind

when I can only travel by mind

by memory only

by the silent remembrance of a warm sun
