What if Death #2

What if Death  #2

for the novle

What if Death-

Love does not

retire

expire

the fire

remains someplace

Going to sleep

she lay next to me

we had shared a bottle of wine

not cheap not dear

not cheap not dear

Love does not

leave after the grieving

die after the death

get buried with all the

other old memories

How can I tell you

she was dead in the morning

when I turned to her

it was no longer a her

but someone who used to be her

Love does not die-

this was too many years

to remember, too few years to

forget, I am not the only one

to wake up to a dead lover-

What if Death

means she is waiting for me

in whatever passes for an afterlife

will there be other lovers there

will some of them also call for me?
