Policia de Gobierno #10 *
aka Plaza de la Independencia #10
aka Quito 2018
(from the 9-11-15 Series
set in the Plaza during a visit there.)
As one explained to her
one did not get her sparkling water
because she always sparkles anyway
not because
one did not want to leave his bench
Walking across the Plaza
trying to remember any Spanish
ended up with Diet Coke
as one did not point out to her
one could point to that item
The last time
I felt alive
within all of me
not one who is sick/wounded
pieces of a man
She has helped me
through all of 2016
and now another year
and now another year
where it feels like one again
And now another year
where it feels like less of me
is available
and even though
more is on order-
Now I will never
walk across that
Quitoan square on
nine eleven fifteen
and get her that sparkling spring water
Now I will write
her a simple Poem
about Quito and the sun shining
and the dogs barking
and the wind blowing
and the people speaking
and the love happening-
What are memories for
if not to happen again
