For Laurie Pollack

For Laurie Pollack, who was twitter attacked by a Neo-Nazi

Resistance is sometimes mandatory, we are in these times

Did anyone  in the port city of Trieste speak

when the Riseria di San Sabba became a

prison camp on September 8th, 1943 or on

April 4 of the next year when the crematorium opened

or was it business and busyness as usual

Do we speak, then or act or wonder what to do

when any of “them” are attacked

Jews, Muslims, any form of Immigrants

do we find a way to resist anyone becoming a “them”

becoming an object, no longer a person

Do we still know how to resist

when we think it is enough to keystroke

enough to join a thousand others

on the streets or on the net

enough to do what has become the usual, the expected

Do I know any answers, or only the questions

Do I seriously think my plays or poems

will do or mean

I know resistance is mandatory

and that we are in these times

I do not know where the road next leads
