This is an Immigration Nation

This is an Immigration Nation

Note; More a song than a Poem

Music collaborator needed

William Penn’s new religion

was said to make

the new king quake

so he sent him and his across the sea

other English found they could be

in their belief and took their stand

and, oh yeah, some took the Indian land

This is an Immigration Nation

a lot of strands, over generations

This is an Immigration Nation

unless you’re from the reservation

A revolution came and the new was born

And the Irish came to Philly and such

and the no nothings didn’t like that much

burned their churches brought them fear

so they would leave the sweet land here

but they came and stayed, and took a stand

never should hate be the perfect plan

This is an Immigration Nation

a lot of strands, over generations

This is an Immigration Nation

unless you’re from the reservation

My ancestors came around 1910

And the US let some of them in

they needed workers  let’s use refugees

Jewish then and others who  flee

and as it got closer to another World War

doors started to close to the Jewish star

After all, what could happen there

This is an Immigration Nation

a lot of strands, over generations

This is an Immigration Nation

unless you’re from the reservation

Now more refugees are walking North

as though they can just up and go forth

to leave crime, poverty and war

“Hell, man, we don’t want no more

We’ll build a wall, we’ll shoot them down”

remember the songs of our grand grands

who left their lands to take a stand

listen to new songs of hopes, of plans

This is an Immigration Nation

a lot of strands, over generations

This is an Immigration Nation

unless you’re from the reservation
