Poems from the Archive #2

Poem to noone in particular ( Maybe MacBeth’s wife)

You called today

back from London, Amsterdam, Lima, and

all these other places

you swear you wrote me from

told you

I’m with a woman

whom I like deeply

and who loves me

neglected to mention

still loved you like MacBeth his lady

you would not of believed me—

or worse

you might have—

You asked who was reading Poetry where

was Dan Keiner still Reading

Lamont

Kimmika

We talked for an hour

most of Poetry

too little of other….emotions

I talked to Maralyn about you

she’s titling her next Reading

Vagina from Hell

I said you called

then we switched topics

I have learned no way to not love you

You, probably, in all your absence and distance,

absence and distance

would not let me love you now

would not trust me

oh, we could have use of each other again

and I would be in love

and you would be in like

and why can’t I look on you like I look on her

and why can’t I Look on her like I look on you

and why can’t you look on me like—

This Poem is not about anyone

all the incidents are trivial,

and all the love herein expressed is a joke,

and all MacBeth really needed

which he did not have

was a lover

as full of love as his wife

Bob Small-5/4/88—Linda Called

revised, somewhat, 6-18-19

Note; Mrs. Macbeth is only known in the Play as Lady Macbeth

There’s a coda to this Poem, Goodbye on Broad St,

which I’ll put on whenever I find it or I’ll reinvent it.

Now that this on line, I can toss out the paper copy.
