The Covid Cafe #26 Martindale 3-24

The Covid Cafe #26

Martindale 3-24

Note; will probably divide this also into voices

So we go to our local

natural foods market

natural foods market

on Senior day, should we even be out

even with gloves

even on Senior day

even feeling uneven

It’s almost noon and there’s a line

It’s almost noon and they open at eleven

but their shipment was late and we all

stand six feet away, very polite

it is, after all, a natural foods store

and we are naturally polite

Talked to a guy walking past me

to join his place

at the foot

of the line

“Guess neither of us

know

the right people”

Got a smile

needed in

these thin and piping times

Most everyone knew

to find the

tail of the line

tail of the line

the one or two

others

were told

were told

5

Only 7 at a time

yes, we have to wait

yes, this is our fate

we can wait not in pain

we can wait not in rain

standing quietly outside

no, we’re not insane

6)

Once inside i tried

using the requisite gloves

not to drop every damn thing

picked up not to drop every-

most times i didn’t

most times

The streets were

almost as quiet

as Thanks or Christ mas

giv ing

though this was

less a holiday

more a

helliday
