Duet for Man, Woman, Birth, Death, Infinity, and St. Louis #6

aka Seaman’s Choice# revision

____________________

Man So your blood red

Sea Man’s gone

Woman Who are you

to comment on my pain

Man l listened.

it reminded me of mine
of sailors gone

of sailors not

Woman Thin king of, thin king of
two pains do not make a healing

Man can blend

pra duce fabulous colours

the melting

womanI am re morse less
norse less
you are
not less
not more
not mine

Man I have been lessened

now melting Melding Melisande

a candle

down to stub

don’t bet on infinity

Woman Have you loved long,hard,

and to no visible effect

been dealt love

like I?

Man And more

for less

All my sailors and sailorettes

searching for Atlantis

I am merely be tween ships

Shipless, so to speak

Woman What then

do you have left

as gift

as guile

just a de sci bing

of a smile

Man only the sight

of the horizon

the broken

shards of dawn

and how

like mon soon ery furies

we rage,

but then go on
smelling his salt in my dreams

Woman But I would pause
for only a time
find new ar ma das
for only a time

Man To pause

does that not invite

you to choose

not to choose

for the forseeable again

Woman But I choose

these new

wa ters

and it’s my ship

this time

Man And I watch

Woman As is your choice
