Aschakery
You say you’re a Poet, kid
I wanna see your age card
your sage card
your rage card
Let’s see your Poetic License
your Egototic License
You say you give good verse
and you give a big Pentameter
and a hairy Haiku
you amaze and daze your
funky furry fierce feline female friends
with your
terse
verse
and straight ahead
1982 Sonnet
Pull on over to the bar and buy yourself a small one
you say your
iambic is manic
and when you smile
no odes are blanmk
not a dry face
in the bar
So this is what it is, kid
Battle of the Net Work Poeteers
Performance as substance
Deadwater, huh?
The show goes on
eve
After the art
leaves
I have dreams of leaves
in my room
open wi dow win dows
in the middle of lazy win ter
you say you
don’t
dream
the cryin’ sidewalk
never rushes up to meet you
But you say you
don’t dream
It takes up too much dream
The year is 1976
The place is Long Island
The name is Phil Ochs
who merely
takes a rope
and hangs himself

Notes on Aschakery
This is a Poem dedicated to the Poet Aschak for surviving as a Poet. A younger Poet had been denied access to a Reading at the Bar Bacchanal because he didn’t have an age card.
Aschak said he actually needed to have a sage card and gave me permission to steal that line from him. Poet Lou Mckee said “Good Poets borrow, Great Poets steal”. Lou Mckee
stole that Line. This is a foot note I usually insert when I read this Poem.
