Could I have that same courage
the wheelchaired man
sailing along without legs
Could I dare to be out in the world
still want to be part of it
with parts missing
Could I still own my dreams
knowing some were irreplaceable
but some still lived
I hope I can
when night comes to me
as to all it must
I hope to know
what is irreplaceable
and what is merely knowledge newly gained

It seemed like
the man pushing an empty wheelchair
knew it would remain empty
and that was how his world was now
It was only a moment in glimpse
only a brief past sound
only a time on a street
in Kensington one time
I saw him once before
no longer pushing his wife
just the chair
that was her last living memory
He rolled it then
to a table
which he helped her leave
gently, from habit and hope
from habit and hope

The first scene seen was also the last
floral and sculpture met
reminded me of free artists in
Copenhagen and Meridian
in West Philly and lonely Galleries
Dreams of skulls and flowers
ghosts and poems
photos were untaken
because the images remain
the images remain

We were there
due to tickets free received
were we doing something middle class then
unimportant unradical nonrevolutionary
Yes and there are times to be and do
when one is neither creating or
politicking
there are times
there are times
to have days to hold on to
as insurance
for times without trees
