Blue Blooz
Inspired by the works of James E. Dupree
(blue tinged instruments on the wall)

Blue Blooz
What other colour could the Blues be
Could there be green blues, black blues,
black and blue blues, lavender blues,
red blues, dead blues,
blues for the dead,
blues for the not quite dead,
blues in the day time in the soft silent park
blues for the cops, blues for the shot,
blues for the dreams not yet dreamt,
blues for the screamers, dreamers, schemers

Who owns the Blooz and who tells us how to
sing them, spell them, ring them, smell them,
who says how much dues
must be paid
until one can say
they have the Blues and not be laughed at

Blue Blooz on a city hall wall
on a pretty hall wall
on a grity hall wall
near courts and such,
where many go in and some just don’t come out
and just last week
there were screams for Mumia
and don’t ask me ifhedidit.
Anytime I went to 13th and Locust in the 1980’s
it felt so good
I forgot to remember.
I couldn’t tell you my nights
or my names.
Or any of theirs.
And I know as much as anyone
who swears they know the truth.
Blue Blooz.
