Moving Someplace new, part one
prose and poem
The persons who were letting us live with them, after my she sudden died and there was no longer an us, come to let me know, in as gentle as this kind of thing gets knowing, that he was being restationed, his wife to join, whatever fantasies one might have had, based on some long since previous nights, and the owner had some relatives who desperate needed place, due to, well, none of my beeswax.
The first night I went to see
South 12th Street
in mid South Philly
it was at Twilight
___________________________–
it was at twilight
all steps were filled, some attractively, some otherwise,
some waiting their persons
walked up to Lo and said Hi, I-
_____________________________
walked up to LO, and said Hi, I-
didn’t know her by a name yet
just that she was built like a brick _house
and I wanted to feel her radiance
______________________________
and I wanted to feel her radiance
I would spend a few twi-nights
sitting on the step below
drinking and talking

drinking and talking
nothing ever else
her being married to a
jealous cop and
——————-
jealous cop and
she might give me a gentle
nudge and kick but that
was at good as it gets
_______________________
was as good as it gets
be having hot and cold running bargirls
woman of no and low repute
looking for the same in a man

looking for the same in a man
while Lo might invite me in, every then and now
when I now had time for her
but I knew how to say no
______________________
I knew how to say no
that first day, then
she told me the first floor women on the other next door
were strictly “pay to play”
______________________
were strictly “pay to play”
and plenty other gossip
and don’t remember Lo
ever looking bad

the very next day, the very next day
paid three months in cash
whIch I got someplace
and thus was 12th Street
